Our client, a medium sized Financial Services organisation, are currently seeking a Business Analyst Lead for an initial 6+ month contract.

The Business Analyst Lead role is responsible for how the practice of business analysis is executed within projects and programs within a large Transformation Program. Each program within the portfolio has a Business Analyst Lead who is assigned to guide program/project teams on their approaches, methods, tools and quality assurance across business analysis, business modelling, business process engineering and requirement management.

Together with other Business Analysts Leads, the role guides the Business Analysis Community of Practice to uplift the internal capability of business analysis. The role has a strong focus on knowledge management, with the retention, organisation and re-use of Intellectual Property such as business requirements, business processes, business procedures being of critical importance to the role.

Roles and responsibilities include;

  • Lead discovery and early analysis activities during the definition phase for new initiatives. Employ techniques and approaches that accelerate understanding of the customer and business impacts, potential for business benefits, delivery feasibility and delivery achievability of an initiative.
  • At the commencement of a new initiative, drive a strong collaboration and consultation with business architects, service designers and customer experience specialists to ensure that new initiatives are established in alignment with target state aspirations for customer experience and service delivery.
  • Lead the practice of business analysis during execution of a program of work. Guide program/project teams on how to design and implement a fit for purpose approach to business analysis, including requirement definition and management, business process engineering and business modelling.
  • Guide the business analyst community on differences in the application of plan-driven/predictive approaches or more adaptive (iterative and agile) approaches to delivery and how these approaches can be supported, Support Program and Project Managers in the selection of appropriate delivery methods.
  • Lead the coordination of business analysis activities during the planning stage of a program of work. In consultation with the Program or Project Manager, define the work breakdown and assignment of activities to business analysts on the initiative. Track and monitor business analyst work assignments, supporting them to execute work to a high standard.
  • Ensure that a valid, fit for purpose requirement traceability and coverage model is in place for initiative within the program of work. Ensure the use of delivery lifecycle tools is agreed the team and key stakeholders, supporting delivery of each initiative.
  • Lead the coordination of business analysis activities during the delivery stage, including support for business readiness and benefit realisation, support for procedure development, warranty and transition support, user acceptance test preparation and defect management. Track and monitor progress of business analyst work assignments, supporting them to execute work to a high standard.
  • Grow, evolve and maintain a business analysis knowledge management framework promoting the retention of critical intellectual property, increasing the speed and effectiveness of business analysis and change impact assessments.
  • Together with Business Analyst Leads from other programs of work, lead a business analyst community of practice focussed on lifting the internal capability of analysis/
  • Analyse industry and market trends, identifying opportunities to trial or experiment with new ways of working that may increase internal analysis capability, delivery performance and results for business and customers.

Essential skills and experience required;

  • Proven experience leading and directing the application of business anlaysis on complex programs of work.
  • Proven experience in business analysis practices applied in both plan-driven (predictive) and agile (adaptive) methods, including experience in guiding teams to select appropriate approaches
  • Broad experience of project delivery governance and associated risk and control frameworks
  • Superior stakeholder management skills, including the ability to consult to stakeholders with competing interests in a program or project, facilitate effective group dynamics and apply effective negotiation
  • Customer focused mentality and approach to service delivery
  • Strong analytical capability, including the ability to synthesize complex information in order to identify solution options and promote resolutions to problems.
  • Qualifications achieved in one or more change delivery frameworks including but not limited to in PMBoK, BABoK, Scrum, SAFe, Prince2, MSP, MoP.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experienced with Atlassian Tools
  • Relevant experience in financial services and the superannuation industry an advantage.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the function of governance structures in a medium sized corporate environment.
