Doug Carmichael

Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth Bank Group Super

DIRECTOR & ACTING PRESIDENT

Doug was appointed CEO of Commonwealth Bank Group Super in 2010.   Doug and his team support the Trustee Board in the development and execution of strategies which sustain the financial well-being of 75,000 past and present employees of the Group.  His introduction to the superannuation industry was through his time at Australian Administration Services where he served as GM Strategic Operations and Risk Management in the mid-2000’s.  Doug gained broad financial services management experience in a number of roles with TD Bank in Canada and Australia and with Citigroup in Australia.  He is also a Director and past-President of the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce.

Lesley Gillespie OAM, Bakers Delight

DIRECTOR & TREASURER

Lesley Gillespie is Director of Bakers Delight Holdings Ltd which oversees all bakery operations across 4 countries (Australia, New Zealand, Canada and USA) as well as a Director and co-owner of the grocery clearance chain, NQR based in Victoria Australia with 21 outlets.

Her achievements include being a finalist in the 2004 Prime Minister’s Award for Community Partnerships, receiving the 2002 Boroondara Citizen of the Year (shared with her husband Roger), an OAM in 2006 and a Fellowship from Monash University in 2013 (where she gained a Honours Degree in Science and a Diploma of Education).

Apart from the ongoing and active partnership of Bakers Delight and Breast Cancer Network Australia, Lesley is also the Patron of the Margaret Pratt Foundation which supports research into transplanted organ rejection, Patron of the Hawthorn Community Chest (an honour she shares with Josh Frydenberg, Ted Baillieu and John Pesutto) and she chairs the Business School Industry Advisory Board for Swinburne University.


Melissa Wharton, Thread

COMPANY SECRETARY

With over 20 years of experience in corporate, specialising in Human Resources & Talent Acquisition, Mel decided to start her own business venture in 2016. She is the Founder of Thread, a professional mentoring app that connects mentors with mentees - "think Tinder meets LinkedIn". 

Before joining the CACC, Mel previously sat on the Women in Franchising Committee, part of the Franchise Council of Australia. Originally from Vancouver, Mel studied at Ryerson University (Toronto) before relocating to Melbourne, Australia in 2007. 



Mike Bacina, Piper Alderman

DIRECTOR

Michael is a Partner in Piper Alderman’s Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Group based in Sydney. The cryptocurrency and Blockchain space presents unique challenges merging cutting edge technology and a challenging regulatory space as rapid development and adoption of this exciting technology occurs.

Since founding and exiting a successful IT start-up in the early 2000s, Michael has maintained an active involvement in information technology. He is knowledgeable in the workings of, and legal issues surrounding, virtual currencies/crypto-currencies, crypto- tokens, blockchain and smart contracts. This technical knowledge coupled with a highly commercial approach enables Michael to add real value to his client’s businesses. Michael delivers targeted advice for the whole token sale process, including securities analysis and negotiation of commercial agreements including shareholder, advisor, supply, and software development agreements.

Michael regularly published on cryptocurrency and Blockchain matters and presents on Smart Contracts and regulatory issues facing Blockchain businesses both internationally (New York, San Francisco and Singapore) and in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane). He is an active member of both the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce and Blockchain Australia.


Ross Campbell, The MBO Group

DIRECTOR

Ross Campbell is the co-founder of the boutique advisory firm The MBO Group, helping managers acquire the companies that they work for (management buyouts). Ross has spent his entire career either investing in, or advising to, private companies on growth, acquisitions and ownership successions with career experience as a commercial banker, asset-based lender, royalty financer and private equity investor as co-founder of Norvest Capital Partners. He has sat on numerous private company boards and advisory committees and is the past trustee and Chair, Audit Committee of a TSE listed REIT.

Ross is a member of FEI Canada where he was past Chair, FEI Canada’s Private Company Finance Committee and is an accredited member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.


Monica Lunin, Mojologic

DIRECTOR

Monica is the Co-owner and Director of Mojologic – a niche training consultancy business focused on the art and science of influence.  Monica is a sought after consultant, facilitator and speaker who works with companies like AMP, Macquarie Bank, EY, Qantas and Suncorp to motivate and empower change.

Prior to taking the helm at mojologic Monica held executive positions at Colonial First State, Commonwealth Bank, and MLC.  In these roles she has directed large scale organisational change initiatives, established centres of excellence and managed national operational businesses. 

When she’s not attached to a lapel mic, you can find her swimming at Manly Beach, skiing down a mountain, cramming for book club or negotiating with teenagers.


Mike McGrath, PriceWaterhouse Coopers

DIRECTOR

Mike is currently Managing Partner – Chief Marketing Officer and the Global Relationship Partner for Telstra. Mike has also served as Managing Partner of Clients and Markets where he was responsible for PwC Australia’s Priority Accounts and Industries Programs, Clients Experience and Networks Programs, Market Propositions and Strategic Marketing, Communications and Brand. In this capacity Mike was also an Executive Board Member, a member of the Firm Executive. Prior to this Mike was the National Markets and Industries Leaders for PwC Consulting. Mike has also lead the Growth Strategy Practice in Consulting and has worked in the Financial Services, Energy and Utilities, Transport and Logistics, and Government sectors.

Mike has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications sector across the North American, European, and Asia Pacific regions with key focus on development and delivery of consulting services and solutions around Market Entry Strategy, Operationalising Customer Insight, Channel Strategy, Channel Performance Improvement, Sales Excellence, Customer Value Management, Revenue Integrity and Reward Performance Alignment. In addition to 13 years of consulting, Mike spent 13 years as an Executive at Bell Canada. He has led Consumer and Business P&L's and has worked across the functional domains of IT, technology, networks, customer account management, billing, sales, product management, marketing and strategy.


Greg McNab, Baker & McKenzie

DIRECTOR

Greg McNab is a former mechanical engineer and partner in the Securities Group of the international law firm Baker & McKenzie’s Toronto office. Greg’s practice includes working with financial services, resource and energy companies both domestically and internationally, with a large portion of that work involving opportunities between Canada and Australia. Baker & McKenzie is one of the largest law firms in the world with offices all around the world in major finance centres.

Greg regularly works with his colleagues in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne to liaise with Australian and Canadian Government contacts to facilitate opportunities between the two countries. 


Bob Penty

DIRECTOR

Bob is an executive with an unusually broad range of experience in management of very large IT projects. He has been working in the field for over 50 years. Over his career Bob has worked in Canada, France, USA, Japan and Australia.  His long experience and consistent record of success has made his recommendations immediately credible with senior executives and boards. 

His career in Canada included thirty years with IBM. His final position was to develop a new consulting services business that has grown to be global in scope. After leaving IBM, Bob was engaged by Air Canada to oversee implementation of a new airline reservation system. Later he worked on reservation systems at Canadian Airlines and Continental Airlines. 

Bob was offered a position in Australia by Qantas as a General Manager in their IT division, and later recruited by IBM to manage their Asia-Far East travel and transportation consulting team. He negotiated system outsourcing contracts at many airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand, Ansett, Singapore Airlines and Korean Airlines. Then he started his own program management and IT consulting company. Significant engagements included work with Virgin Airlines, RailCorp, Commonwealth Bank, Malaysian Airlines, Coles-Myer, Telstra, David Jones, and Optus.
